The Blues Notions

Congratulations to The Blues
Notions, winners of the 2004 KCBS Blues Challenge. Their rousing set at the
finals showed what 16 years of "woodshedding" can do to tighten
up a band! We look forward to seeing them in Memphis at Blues First!
Since 1987, The Blues Notions have been
synonymous with "real deal" blues. The "Gentlemen of Jump"
were KC's Blues Challenge winners in 1988 and 1991, and now again in 2003,
making them the first "three decade" Kansas City Blues Challenge
winners! The five piece group has been delighting their audiences around the
Midwest for many years. The Blues Notions blend traditional and jump blues with
their own original material, creating a well-rounded show that swings, shouts,
and leaves the crowd clamoring for more.
Their lineup includes Tom "Trashmouth"
Baker on vocals and harmonica, Karl "Jefferson Slim" Angerer on
guitar, Mike "Shinetop" Sedovic on organ and piano, Mr. Cardy Quintero
on electric bass, and Tim Osburn on drums. They have played the major blues
venues and festivals in the Midwest, and have opened for many national acts,
including Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Koko Taylor, Roomful of Blues, and The
Nighthawks. They have also backed up Frankie Lee and the late, great Johnny
Adams. Their CD "This Is It!" has received airplay on several Midwest
blues radio stations, and was described by Bruce Iglauer, president of Alligator
Records, as "tasteful and really bluesy. A pretty outstanding album, and
the best songs were as good as anything I've heard in a long time."
